Know your audience
It is no exaggeration, I had this conversation a hundred times with artists and groups with whom I worked: Who is your audience objective?
Much can be said about people not wanting to be classified, but we like it or not how things work. Categorization of search assistance of a particular, easily, check the library and see how things are implemented.
Go to the supermarket aisles rated. Respond to business magazines different areas of activity; Black Enterprise focuses on African-American entrepreneur focuses on entrepreneurs, Forbes focuses on the largest companies in the world. Although each a business magazine, focusing on a different audience in the business.
So who is your target audience? As my experience, artists resist categorization because of the implicit limitation of art, but because of work and responsibility to choose to target their creative output. As an artist, can make your music as you see fit, however, make money with your music, you need to know that he wants.
Just because you can be the rap and mad with arrogance does not mean that everyone loves their work. Jay Z Hannah Montana and Pearl Jam have gone platinum, but let me be clear about this, one of them a little money me. The two other acts have received their money to another group of music lovers.
You can not convince everyone, but you can get yours! To collect, who wants to know what you do.
